Scrubbing more does not give you better skin

The instinct with oily or dull skin is to scrub harder and more often. It is the wrong move. Over-exfoliating strips the surface, and skin responds to that by producing more oil, not less — so the very problem you were trying to fix gets worse.

Once or twice a week is enough for almost everyone. If your skin feels tight, stinging or red after a scrub, that is not it working; it is a signal to ease off both the pressure and the frequency.

How To Use It Well

Damp skin, light circles, no pressure

Most people press far harder than they need to. The exfoliation comes from the texture of the walnut shell moving across the skin, not from the force behind your fingers. Pressing harder does not exfoliate more; it just irritates.

Apply to damp skin — dry skin drags and the same grains suddenly feel much rougher. Light circles with the fingertips, thirty seconds or so, then rinse. On the body you can be firmer; elbows, knees and heels tolerate what a face never should.

Wet the skin first. Never scrub dry skin — that is where most irritation comes from.

Light circles with the fingertips for about thirty seconds on the face, longer on the body.

Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water, not hot.

Moisturise while damp. Freshly exfoliated skin takes in whatever comes next — this is the step people skip.
