How to Wear a Kashmiri Kaftan

Everyday & modest wear

A Kashmiri kaftan is the easiest thing you own — a loose kaftan dress with no fitted waist, worn as a top over trousers or on its own. A relaxed, modest-fashion silhouette for daily wear, work-from-home and lounging.

  • As a top — over jeans, leggings or palazzos
  • Around the house — the piece you change into and stay in
  • Festival & guest wear — dressed up with juttis and jhumkas

Resort, beach & travel

Light cotton and poly-cotton make these ideal resort wear and summer kaftans — a breezy cover-up poolside or on a beach, and a travel piece that packs flat and comes out fine.

  • Beach cover-up — loose cotton over swimwear
  • Resort & vacation — bohemian, breathable, effortless
  • Travel — folds small, needs nothing thought through
Guide

What Is a Kashmiri Kaftan?

A kaftan is a long, loose robe-style dress; a Kashmiri kaftan carries the floral embroidery motifs Kashmir is known for, worked at the neckline and yoke. Ours are cut in two lengths — short kaftans that end at the hip or thigh and work as a top, and long kaftans worn as a full maxi kaftan dress.

What makes them Kashmiri is the design and the origin: Kashmiri floral patterns, fabric chosen and finished here, and dispatched from Pampore. The threadwork is machine embroidery — neat and consistent, which is what keeps an embroidered Kashmiri kaftan affordable at ₹950 rather than the price of a hand-worked piece.

Described exactly as it is

Machine threadwork is called machine threadwork. Cotton and poly-cotton are named as they are. We would rather write it down than let you assume otherwise — that is the whole idea.

Questions People Ask Us

Is the embroidery handmade or machine-made?

Machine. The kaftans here carry machine embroidery — neat, consistent threadwork at ₹950. We don't describe it as hand-worked, because it isn't.

Then what makes them Kashmiri?

The motifs and the origin — Kashmiri floral designs, fabric chosen and finished here, shipped from Pampore with a GST invoice.

Do you sell any hand-embroidered pieces?

One — a rose peach long kurti in hand-worked Sozni needlework. It's in our kurti collection and priced very differently.

What fabric are the kaftans?

Cotton and poly-cotton — light, breathable and cut loose, built for heat and easy everyday wear.

How do I care for one?

Cold hand wash, mild detergent, no wringing, dry in shade. Specific care is on each product page.
