Why the design is concentrated

Everything on this kaftan sits in one place: a deep V panel that starts wide at the shoulders, narrows down the chest and finishes in a tapering spray below the waist. The rest of the garment is left plain black, with only a thin scrolling line following the sleeve edges and the four hem points.

That is the right decision for a loose cut. A kaftan hangs away from the body and moves as you do; embroidery scattered across it would fold in on itself and lose its shape. Concentrated down the centre, the panel stays flat and readable however the fabric falls — and the V line does the work of narrowing what is otherwise a very relaxed silhouette.

How to wear it

Red thread on black cloth

This is the combination that punishes careless washing. Both the red thread and the black ground can release dye early on, and each will find the other. Wash it separately in cold water for the first few washes, with a mild detergent, and keep the handling gentle — no wringing, and no brushing the embroidered panel, where chain stitch pulls loose first.

Dry in shade and inside out; sunlight dulls black faster than most colours and fades red thread quickly. Iron on the reverse at a low setting with the plate kept off the panel entirely.
