Why a two-colour design works harder

Most embroidered tops reach for a full palette. This one uses two colours only — a deep rose pink ground and golden yellow thread — and it is the more confident choice. With no colour variation to carry the design, everything depends on the drawing: the shape of each daisy, the curl of each stem, how densely the vine fills the space. There is nothing to hide behind.

The layout is dense at the top and opens up as it descends. The yoke is almost fully covered, flowers cluster thickly around the notch neckline and across the chest, then the vine thins gradually towards the hem where individual sprays stand on their own. That gradient is deliberate — it puts the weight of the design where the eye lands first.

Gold and rose pink sit close enough on the colour wheel to feel harmonious, but the yellow is light enough to lift clearly off the ground. Cooler thread — white, blue, silver — would have fought the pink instead of warming it. The small dark centres in each flower are what stop the design flattening into a single glow.

A crafted textile: slight variation in stitch density, thread shade and motif placement between pieces is normal in Kashmiri embroidery and is not a defect.

Care

Light fabric, gentle handling

Summer Cool washes easily, which is one of its advantages — but the embroidery is what needs the care, not the cloth. Use cold water and a mild detergent, and keep the handling gentle: do not wring, and do not brush the embroidered areas, where chain stitch pulls loose first.

Wash it separately the first couple of times. A pink this deep can release a little dye early on, and it will find the pale gold threadwork. Dry in shade and inside out, and iron on the reverse at a low setting with the plate off the embroidery.
