Poly Wool Shrug — Navy

Two vines climbing a dark ground.

A navy poly wool shrug with tall flowering vines running the length of both front panels — rosewood stems carrying cream and ivory blooms, framed by a fine floral band at the neck and down the opening.

The Piece

Designed around the way a shrug is worn

A shrug is worn open, which means the two front panels are what people actually see — and that is exactly where the work sits here. Two tall flowering vines climb the full length of the front, one on each side, growing from the hem up towards the shoulder. Between them, a narrow band of small blossoms runs around the neckline and straight down the centre opening, framing whatever is worn underneath.

The back is deliberately quiet: one bouquet motif at the centre and nothing else. It keeps the piece from feeling heavy, and it means the shrug reads as an outfit rather than as a garment competing with the one below it. The hem finishes in a fine fringe.

Fabric

What poly wool gives you

"Wool's warmth, without wool's fragility."

Poly wool is a wool and polyester blend, and each fibre is doing a different job. The wool brings the warmth and the soft, slightly dry handle that acrylic never quite manages. The polyester brings strength: it resists shrinking, holds the garment's shape through wear and washing, and stops the fabric pilling as quickly as pure wool would.

We label it as a blend rather than calling it wool, because the difference matters. Poly wool is not as warm as a pure wool piece and will not have the same lifetime — but it costs a fraction as much, is far less demanding to look after, and is the sensible fabric for a garment meant to be worn regularly rather than saved for occasions.

Honest labelling: this is a poly wool (wool-polyester blend) shrug, not pure wool or pashmina. Anything sold as pure wool at this price is worth a second look.
Key Highlights

What you are getting

  • Poly wool blend — warm, durable and holds its shape.
  • Full-length flowering vines on both front panels.
  • Floral band around the neckline and centre opening.
  • Single bouquet motif at the centre back.
  • Rosewood, cream and ivory threadwork on navy.
  • Open front, short sleeves, relaxed free-size drape.
  • Fringed hem.
  • Dispatched directly from Kashmir with a GST invoice.
Buying Notes

What to check on an embroidered shrug

  • Ask what the fabric is. Poly wool, pure wool, Kashmilon and pashmina are four different things at four prices.
  • Check where the embroidery sits. On an open garment, work hidden at the back is wasted.
  • Both front panels should mirror each other properly — mismatched vines are a sign of rushed work.
  • Look at the neckline band. It is the first place a cheap piece skips detailing.
  • On a dark ground, pale thread shows every uneven stitch. Look closely at the flower centres.
  • Free-size still has a shape. Ask for measurements if you are unsure of the drape.
Styling

How to wear it

1

Over ivory or cream — the cleanest pairing. The pale blooms tie into the outfit and the navy frames it.

2

Over jeans and a plain top — navy and indigo sit together easily, and this is where a light layer earns its keep.

3

Pick up the rosewood — a dusty pink or maroon kurta underneath brings the stems forward.

4

Over a warmer layer in winter — it works as the decorative outer layer as well as the warm one.

Care

Wool rules, softened

The polyester in the blend makes this more forgiving than pure wool — it will not shrink the way wool does if the water runs warm. The embroidery is still the delicate part. Dry clean, or use cold water and a mild detergent, and do not wring or brush the embroidered areas, where chain stitch pulls loose first.

Dry it flat rather than on a hanger; a wet shrug hung by the shoulders stretches out of shape. Keep it in shade and inside out, iron on the reverse at a low setting with the plate off the vines, and store it folded with a natural moth repellent nearby — the wool content means moths are still interested, even in a blend.

Frequently Asked Questions

Good to know

What is poly wool?

A wool and polyester blend. It keeps the warmth and soft handle of wool while the polyester adds strength, resists shrinking and helps the garment hold its shape — which is why it costs less and is easier to look after than pure wool.

How does the shrug fit?

An open-front, free-size shrug with a relaxed cape drape and short sleeves. It layers over a kurta, top or dress rather than fastening closed.

Where is the embroidery placed?

Two tall flowering vines run the full length of the front panels, with a fine floral band around the neckline and down the centre opening. The back carries a single bouquet motif at the centre.

Is it warm enough for winter?

The wool content makes it warmer than an acrylic shrug. It works on its own through autumn and spring, and as an outer layer over a jumper in deep winter.

Will two pieces look exactly the same?

Slight variation in colour placement and motif detail is normal between pieces, and screen colours may differ a little from the actual shade.

How do I care for it?

Dry clean, or a gentle cold hand wash with a mild detergent. Do not wring or brush the embroidered areas. Dry flat in shade, inside out, and iron on the reverse avoiding the threadwork.
