What It Is
An old preparation, not a new formula
Kumkumadi is one of the classical Ayurvedic facial preparations, built around saffron in an oil base with a blend of herbs. It has been made and used in Indian households for generations, long before facial oils became a category in modern skincare.
With regular nightly use people find skin looks smoother and better cared for, with a softer surface glow. That is what a good facial oil does. It is a cosmetic preparation, and we will not tell you it does more than that.
Honest Answer
Why kumkumadi oil costs what it does
"Cheap kumkumadi usually means very little actual saffron."
Saffron is the most expensive spice in the world by weight, and a genuine kumkumadi preparation uses a real quantity of it. That single fact sets the floor on what this product can honestly cost.
Which is why it is worth being sceptical of a very cheap kumkumadi oil. The saffron is either present in a token amount or replaced with colour. We sell saffron itself from our shop in Pampore, so this is a cost we understand from the inside — and the reason we would rather explain the price than quietly discount it.

Using It
Press it in, do not rub it
Cleanse first. Oil applied over the day's dirt does nothing useful.
Two to three drops warmed between the fingertips, pressed gently into the face and neck rather than rubbed in.
Give it a few minutes before you lie down, both so it absorbs and so it does not mark your pillowcase.
Patch test on the inner arm before the first full use, and keep it away from the immediate eye area.

Frequently Asked Questions
Good to know
What is kumkumadi oil?
A traditional Ayurvedic facial oil built around saffron, prepared with a blend of herbs in an oil base. It has been used in Indian skincare for generations as a night oil.
Why is it expensive?
Saffron is the most expensive spice by weight, and a genuine kumkumadi preparation uses a meaningful quantity of it. Very cheap kumkumadi oil usually means very little actual saffron.
How many drops should I use?
Two to three for the whole face. It is a rich oil and more will simply sit on the surface. Used correctly a 30ml bottle lasts several months.
Morning or night?
At night. It is rich enough to feel heavy under makeup or sunscreen, and the traditional use is as a night oil on clean skin.
Will it stain my pillow?
Saffron carries strong natural colour, so the oil has a golden to reddish tint that can mark light bedding. Give it a few minutes to absorb, or use an older pillowcase.
