Kashmiri Guchhi Saffron (Lachha Kesar) — 2gm

The whole bunch, exactly as it comes off the flower.

Guchhi saffron is the full, tied bunch — deep red stigmas with the yellow style still attached. Same Kashmiri crocus as Mongra, less trimming, friendlier price.

Short Description

Real Kashmiri saffron, in its traditional form

Guchhi saffron — also called Lachha kesar — is saffron sold as the complete bunch: the red stigmas together with the pale yellow style they grow on, dried and tied the way farmers in Pampore have always done it. It is the same flower and the same field as our Mongra; the difference is simply that the yellow portion has not been trimmed away. 2gm pack, dispatched from Pampore, Kashmir.

Same flower. Same valley. Honest pricing.

Product Description

Guchhi vs Mongra — the honest version

"What you are paying less for is trimming, not authenticity."

Every saffron flower gives three red stigmas joined at a pale yellow style. Mongra is what you get when that yellow part is cut away and only the red thread is kept — more labour, less weight per flower, so a higher price per gram. Guchhi keeps the bunch intact. You are buying the same crocus from the same Pampore fields, with a portion of yellow style included in the weight.

That matters in one practical way: the colour and aroma live in the red part, so gram for gram Guchhi gives a slightly softer colour than an equal weight of Mongra. Use a pinch more and you land in the same place — which, at this price per gram, still works out cheaper. For everyday kahwa, biryani, kheer, phirni and milk, most Kashmiri homes have always used exactly this form.

The photograph on this page is our actual stock, not a stock image. You can see the deep red threads with the yellow styles running through them — that is what Guchhi looks like, and any seller showing pure red thread while calling it Guchhi is showing you something else.

Packed in an airtight container to hold aroma, and dispatched from Pampore — the saffron town itself.

Why Buy From Us

We are in the saffron town, not near it

Kashmir Online Store operates from Pampore, Pulwama — the belt that produces India's saffron. Stock comes from the fields around us, not through a chain of traders.

Honest Grading

Guchhi is sold as Guchhi. We never pass a bunched grade off as Mongra.

How to Use

Get the most out of each pinch

Soak, don't sprinkle: steep a pinch of threads in 2–3 tablespoons of warm (not boiling) milk or water for 15–20 minutes.

Add the whole thing: pour the coloured liquid and the threads into your kahwa, kheer, biryani, phirni or pulao.

Adjust for the grade: since the bunch includes yellow style, use a slightly larger pinch than you would with Mongra.

Store it right: keep in the airtight container, away from light, heat and moisture. Do not refrigerate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Good to know

What is Guchhi saffron?

Guchhi (also called Lachha) is saffron sold as the whole tied bunch — red stigmas with the yellow style still attached, rather than trimmed red thread alone.

Is it lower quality than Mongra?

It is a different grade, not fake saffron. The flower and the field are the same; Guchhi simply includes the yellow style, so its colour per gram is slightly softer and its price per gram is lower.

How much should I use?

A small pinch steeped in warm milk or water is enough for most dishes. Use a touch more than you would with Mongra.

Why is some of it yellow?

That yellow portion is the style of the flower and is exactly what defines this grade. In Guchhi it belongs there — it is not an adulterant.

How do I store it?

Keep the pack airtight, in a cool dark place away from heat and moisture. Do not refrigerate — condensation spoils saffron.

Do you sell larger quantities?

Yes. For bulk or wholesale rates, message us on WhatsApp.
