Machine and Hand Embroidery

Aari-Style Machine Embroidery

Traditional Aari is a chain stitch worked by hand with a hooked needle. The pieces in this collection reproduce those Aari designs in neat machine threadwork — the motif is Kashmiri, the stitching is done by machine. We do not describe these as handmade.

Hand-Embroidered Sozni

Sozni is fine, flat needlework done slowly by hand. We currently keep one genuine hand-embroidered piece — a Sozni long kurti — priced very differently from the machine-embroidered range.

Kashmiri Embroidery Styles

Aari

A flowing chain stitch worked with a hooked needle, giving fine curling florals. This collection carries Aari-style motifs reproduced in machine threadwork.

Sozni

Fine, flat needlework done slowly by hand — the most delicate of the Kashmiri styles. Our single hand-embroidered piece is Sozni.

Tilla

Metallic gold or silver thread laid in bold festive patterns — traditionally the dressiest Kashmiri work.

Crewel

A bolder chain stitch in wool thread, traditionally used on furnishings and heavier fabric rather than light summer wear.

The Hand-Embroidered Piece

We keep one genuinely hand-worked garment — a Sozni long kurti, embroidered by hand and priced accordingly. Every other piece in this collection is machine-embroidered and described that way.

About the Collection

Fabrics

Cotton and poly-cotton across the range — soft, breathable and easy to wear through a Kashmiri summer or a warm plains afternoon. The exact fabric is stated on each product page.

Kashmiri Design and Origin

Kashmiri floral motifs, and every order dispatched from our own shop in Pampore, Pulwama, with a GST invoice. You are buying directly from us, not through a reseller.

Honest Product Labelling

Machine embroidery is called machine embroidery. The one hand-worked piece is flagged as hand-embroidered. Cotton and poly-cotton are named as they are. Nothing is described as handmade unless it is.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the embroidery handmade or machine-made?

Across this collection it is machine embroidery — neat, consistent Aari-style threadwork at an everyday price. The one exception is our hand-worked Sozni long kurti, which is clearly labelled as hand-embroidered and priced separately.

What is the difference between Aari and Sozni?

Aari is a flowing chain stitch made with a hooked needle. Sozni is a fine, flat, much slower hand needlework. Our range carries Aari-style motifs stitched by machine; Sozni is our single genuine hand piece.

What fabric is used?

Cotton and poly-cotton, chosen for softness and breathability. The exact fabric for each garment is stated on its product page.

What makes these garments Kashmiri?

The motifs and the origin. The designs are traditional Kashmiri floral patterns, and every order is dispatched from our shop in Pampore, Pulwama, with a GST invoice.

What sizes are available and how do I choose?

Kaftans are free size — the cut is loose and relaxed, so it fits a wide range. Kurtis come in the sizes listed in the size selector on that product page; the fit is relaxed rather than tight, so most people take their usual size. Want exact measurements before ordering? Message us on WhatsApp and we will send them.

Are kaftans and kurtis sold as sets?

Each listing is a single garment unless the product page says otherwise. Whatever is included is listed on that page.

How do I care for embroidered pieces?

Cold hand wash with a mild detergent, no wringing, dry in shade inside out, and iron on the reverse away from the threadwork. Hand-embroidered Sozni needs gentler handling still.

How long does delivery take, and can I return an item?

Orders are dispatched from Pampore, Kashmir. Delivery timelines, shipping charges and the return or exchange window are set out in our shipping and return policies, linked above.

The colour I want is sold out — what now?
