What a saffron report actually measures
Saffron is graded internationally under ISO 3632 on three numbers, so you know what you are looking at on any report — ours or anyone else's:
| Measure | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Crocin | Colouring strength. The single most quoted number — higher means deeper colour release. |
| Picrocrocin | Bitterness / flavour intensity. |
| Safranal | Aroma. The scent that survives cooking. |
| Moisture | Water content. High moisture means you are paying saffron prices for water. |
Test it at home too
Put a few threads in room-temperature water. Real saffron releases gold slowly over several minutes and the threads stay red. Dyed material bleeds red immediately and the threads go pale. Run it on ours — we would rather you checked.
